The problems caused by the division of Germany in relation to European and international defence policies are also discussed. F.Stephen Larrabee formerly served on the US National Security Council as a specialist on Soviet-East European affairs and has written several books on military relations, including "Eastern Europe: A Generational Change" and "Gorbachev and the Soviet Military".
